Nicholas Eketone-TeKanawa

BA, LLB

Nicholas (Nic) took the unconventional path to law. In his early 20s, he moved to Japan, where he spent a decade building a small business, marrying, and immersing himself in the language and culture (and starting a serious Japanese tattoo collection along the way).

Rather than settle permanently, Nic returned to New Zealand to pursue a legal career. After practising in Dunedin, he established himself on Auckland's North Shore, where he has worked for many years as a property and business lawyer.

Nic advises individuals, families and businesses on a wide range of matters, including residential and commercial property, buying and selling businesses, commercial leases and agreements, employment and relationship property. He also assists clients with wills and Enduring Powers of Attorney.

Having grown up in Sydney and spent a decade in Japan, Nic brings genuine trans-Tasman and cross-cultural insight to his practice. He speaks Japanese and regularly assists Japanese individuals and businesses with legal matters in New Zealand, as well as clients with interests across New Zealand, Australia and Japan.

Approachable and pragmatic, Nic focuses on outcomes that best serve his clients. Outside the office, you'll likely find him in gym gear or on the sidelines supporting his family at Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Olympic freestyle wrestling tournaments.
